Kiersa can easily escape her crib, but without another bed for her, she's had to stay in it. We tried putting her in bed with the older kids, but Kiersa thrashes around all night and causes more problems than just Tilly and Hyatt's fighting over who is on who's side.
Paisli is end-to-end in her bassinet and needs to go into the crib, but can't until Kiersa has a bed to go into.
So, we've been looking for bunkbeds at stores and on craigslist and at yard sales, but with no luck of finding anything decent for a decent price. We then decided to find a triple bunk, or at least a bunk with a trundle, so we could fit all the kids in one room in case we have to move into a 2 bedroom mobile in Rexburg. We found some online that we liked, then Hyrum found one he thought he could make, so we decided to give it a try. For just under $300, we're making our own version of a $1,499 triple bunk, and no shipping costs! They'll be able to be separated into individual beds also.
Here's the triple bunk picture we found online.

Here's our version of the top and middle bunk. Obviously it's not done. This is just our progress so far.
I'm going to paint it white with a dark glaze on it (glazes just leave darkness in the cracks so the beadboard will stand out more). We're waiting until we find a place in Rexburg before we make the bottom bunk and ladders and put the finishing details on because we need to know how high the ceiling is first.
We made our own bed (a queen log bed), and have now made the kids' triple bunk. I don't know that we'll able to quit the tradition and buy our own beds again. It gives you some satisfaction knowing you made your own beds.
