I'm enrolling her in Connections Academy, which is an online public school. There's a waiting list for Oregon, but she'll probably get in soon. I've talked to a lot of moms lately who had their kids in traditional school, but then put their kids in this school, and they found it far more effective than traditional school, so I'm giving it a try.
I don't have anything against traditional school. It's great for the majority of people. It's just that for me, I decided long ago that I would homeschool my kids if I ever had any (after being a teacher in traditional schools and seeing what a joke their budgets are and the way kids slip through the cracks all the time). I've never envisioned myself putting my kids in school where we're all strapped to the school's schedule. Hy and I are spur-of-the-moment people and like to pick up and vacation when we have the chance, and we have gypsy blood after driving semi, so we want to do travel nursing, which will make it necessary to homeschool our kids.
I've seen A LOT of my friends and relatives pull their kids out of school and start homeschooling them in the past couple of years, with great success. I'm excited to try it now in our family. Hopefully it goes well! If we don't love it, I'll simply enroll her in traditional school. Since Talea's schooling is mostly done online, I think she'll do great because she loves technology.
I'll keep you posted.

If anyone could homeschool their kids well, it's you.
